Finchley Symphony Orchestra opens its season with an evening of entrancing shorter pieces conducted by Christopher Stark. The evening may be dark but the mood of this concert will be light.
Debussy’s Petite Suite and Ravel’s Mother Goose were originally written for piano but are even more popular in their bright orchestral colours. Poulenc’s Sinfonietta displays all the composer’s Gallic elegance and playfulness. Offsetting these pieces with something of a more Germanic flavour will be Mozart’s effervescent ‘Haffner’ symphony.
