Harpenden Choral Society is delighted to present a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, one of the most joyful and uplifting works in the choral repertoire.
Written in 1734 for the Christmas festivities in Leipzig, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio tells the story of Christ's birth through a series of cantatas that combine soaring choruses, beautiful arias and vivid orchestral writing. From the triumphant opening chorus, Jauchzet, frohlocket! (Rejoice, exult!), to its moments of reflection and wonder, the work captures both the excitement and the spiritual significance of the Christmas story. With its memorable melodies, sparkling trumpets and drums, and passages of profound beauty, it continues to inspire audiences nearly three centuries after it was first performed.
The choir will be conducted by Musical Director John Andrews with the King’s Sinfonietta Orchestra and a team of outstanding soloists.
