Possession (1981) Halloween Weekend Screening
See Andrzej Zulawski’s cult classic Possession (1981) on the big screen in Liverpool for Halloween weekend.
Obscure Film and Fringe Flicks join forces at 81 Renshaw for a special screening of the feverish, unsettling and frequently extraordinary cult film starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill.
Set against Cold War Berlin, Possession begins with the collapse of a marriage before spiralling into paranoia, obsession, body horror and something much harder to explain.
The screening is also the closing event of Scalarama Liverpool 2026, the city’s month-long celebration of independent and DIY cinema.
We’re making a suitably strange night of it too. After the film, anyone feeling brave can enter a Possession scene-recreation challenge inspired by one of the film’s most infamous sequences, with prizes to be won. Taking part is completely optional.
There’ll also be a specially commissioned alternative Possession poster, screenprinted at Liverpool Community Print Station and available on the night.
