March’s talk to The Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society (TWHAS) will be given by Dr Alexander Telford Smith . He will present ‘’New light on the Romano-British countryside: Current results of the Roman Rural Settlement Project". The current Rural Settlement in Roman Britain project is using data collected from both published sources and unpublished ‘grey literature’ to provide new light on how the Romano-British countryside worked. Alex Smith is a Senior Research Fellow at Reading University, and his main area of interest is the rural settlement of Roman Britain. His talk will provide a brief overview of the current state of this research, concentrating on southern Britain, and assessing how the TWHAS excavated site at Coldharbour Farm fits in with wider patterns in the Romano-British countryside.
This talk will be held on Wednesday 8th March, 7.45 for 8pm, at St Mary’s Church, Wallingford. Visitors (£4) are most welcome. www.twhas.org.uk
