Port Sunlight Sea Dogs - By popular demand! PSSD are back the best, panoramic, Marine Promenade performance setting in the UK - the historic 'Pivvy' - famed in story & song! Port Sunlight Sea Dogs continue a great tradition of singing lusty choruses & wistful ballads which tell of our maritime history. Free entry, and an opportunity to sing your hearts out to all of your favourite shanties, right on the banks of the River Mersey. HISTORY: Shanties may have been sung as far back as the 15th century on merchant ships, hardly heard on naval vessels. The right shanty helped the crew with the hardest jobs in the harshest conditions– while weighing anchor, hoisting topsails, loading/unloading cargo; hauling sails in a gale, the seas breaking over the ship, decks awash, knee deep in water, straining together, feet braced, for one mighty pull! Come by rail, road, rail, ferry or even jet ski....
FREE! 12-2pm. Licensed cafe/restaurant. Fantastic location, magnificent views of the Napoleonic Fort Perch Rock, and the Mersey ferries sailing to & fro. Bracing promenade, beach and riverside walks.
