Martlesham Heath Aviation Society. Monthly Meeting, Friday 3rd March 2017

Friday March 3rd 2017 Meeting of the Martlesham Heath Aviation Society. Peter Hart, Oral Historian, The Imperial War Museum, Presents:“Bloody April – Slaughter in the skies over Arras - April 2017” Some say the slaughter of R.F.C. pilots over the trenches in April 1917 was due to poor training, outdated outgunned aircraft, and the blind commitment of the generals to fight at any cost. Is this true? Peter tells the whole story, and the truth…. Note: It is particularly appropriate to have this talk at this date……. Martlesham Heath became a Royal Flying Corps base on 16th January 1917 – to help the Corps to up its game in response to the real successes over the Western Front of its tough and effective adversary, The German Airforce.
