Great Knaresborough Bed Race
To be held on Saturday 9 June 2018, the Great Knaresborough Bed Race offers a spectacular, colourful, eccentric and gruelling sporting contest. Racing beds has been a feature in Knaresborough every year since 1966, and involves 90 beds of six runners and a hopefully willing passenger. It is part fancy dress fiesta, part lung-bursting slog around a 2.4 mile course. Unbeatable! A great family day out with plenty of attractions for young and old. It has been never cancelled and has spawned other bed races all over the world. The theme of the 2018 event is 'A Night at the Theatre'. Organised by the Knaresborough Lions, marshalled by volunteers and staged to raise money for charity and worthy causes. The 2017 event saw 25,000 people come to watch and thousands of pounds raised for charity. Free park and ride. www.bedrace.co.
Beds gather at the Castle from 10am. Parade starts at 1 pm. Race starts as time trials at 3pm and announced around 5pm. Free around most of the course; entry to Conyngham Hall field is £2 per adult; kids under 16 enter free. Also, free park and ride - see website.
