Prison & Police Museum- Ripon
Heritage Open Day: The buildings in St Marygate served as a prison for the Liberty from 1686 to 1879 and as the Police Station from 1880 to 1959. Our building retains many of the original features and much of the atmosphere of a Victorian prison. This year, the theme for Heritage Open Days is 'Locked Up'. Pass by the whipping post, stocks and shackles in the yard to enter the cold empty cells. Displays also illustrate the history of policing in Yorkshire and include lots of hands on
