The Merchant's House - A Glorious Restoration of a 17th Century Silk Merchant's House
Heritage Open Day: The House of Thomas Bayly was built following the Great Fire of Marlborough in 1653. A fine timber and brick building was constructed, its interior panelled, brilliant with wall paintings and with a commanding oak straircase. By careful conservation of the building and the use of 17th century furnishings the Merchant's House Trust is bringing back to life the home of a family who lived through one of the most tumultuous but fascinating periods of English history.
