What better piece to start this concert than the Overture from The Barber of Seville by Rossini? This rousing music is followed by one of the wonderful Hungarian Dances from Johannes Brahms. You might have to stop yourself from humming out loud to this well known melody which sweeps the listener along so completely! And yet another favourite to follow! The last movement of Mozart’s Horn Concerto no. 4 is even familiar to many who wouldn’t count themselves as Classical music fans! With soloist, David Tollington, who has played with many of the country’s leading orchestras, this Concerto is sure to be a storming conclusion to the first half of the concert! The second half features Symphony no. 2 by Borodin. He was professor of Chemistry at the St. Petersburg Surgical Academy whilst working on this, so it’s not surprising it took several years to complete this symphony. It was worth the wait for the many wonderful melodies contained within its movements.
Starts at 7.30pm Tickets Adults £8.00, Concessions £7.00 . Children under 16 £3.00 Available through the orchestra website.
