A charity concert with the ever-popular Thanet Male Voice Choir in the village's beautiful Norman church, to raise funds for its £300,000 roof appeal. The 13th century church is listed in Simon Jenkins's "England's 1000 Best Churches", and is known for its excellent acoustics, friendly welcome and delicious refreshments. Back in 1977, Thanet Male Voice Choir only had 12 members, but now there are more than 70 names on the books, with internationally acclaimed actress Brenda Blethyn as Honorary President. The choir has travelled throughout England, Wales and the rest of Europe, including a performance in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and has raised large sums of money for charitable causes, as well as being in great demand to sing at weddings. The choir's Musical Director, Martin Rendle, has his own teaching studio in St Nicholas-at-Wade, but also performs regularly both in the UK and overseas with companies such as Glyndebourne.
Performance 7.30 p.m. to around 9.30 p.m. Refreshments will be available for a donation. Tickets £8 in advance (post office or BrownPaperTickets), £10 on the door; free admission to under 18s.
