St. Leonard’s Church House - The Grapes Inn Archaeological Excavation

Heritage Open Day: Following several years of test-pitting, Middleton Archaeological Society is getting to grips with the prestigious site by undertaking a full excavation. The Church House was demolished in 1890 but is built on the cellar of a thatched pub. It is at the gates of St. Leonard’s Church which was rebuilt in the 15th century and is the oldest Church in Greater Manchester. The site will be open to visitors over Heritage Open Days for guided tours around the site. There will also
