Winding Engine Run
The Winding House is built on the site of the former Elliot Colliery. The museum's centre-piece is the original Victorian winding engine. This remarkable piece of machinery was used to operate the cages which transported the men and coal between the surface and the mine below. Our dedicated and enthusiastic engine volunteers maintain and run the engine for members of the public.
The last Saturday of every month, 12PM
Please Note: Running the engine is dependent on the availability of our dedicated engine volunteer team. On very rare occasions, scheduled engine running time
