Was your Ancestor a Gypsy?

Beverley Walker covers the story of Gypsies and ways to research Romany and other Traveller families.

Part 1
Learn about the migration of Gypsies from India and their history in Britain. Beverley discusses the Gypsies’ culture and lifestyle, including tents, caravans, travel and language. She offers examples of typical names and the jobs they did.

Part 2
Find out about the sources you can use to research Romany and other Traveller families, including Fairground, Circus and Canal people. Beverley shows examples of documents found relating to her family and other families in various parts of Britain.

There are no special entry requirements for this talk and you do not need to be a Member of the Society of Genealogists to attend. Expect a friendly atmosphere, an expert tutor and lots of detail.
This half-day workshop runs from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm and costs £20.00. For Members of the Society of Genealogists, a discounted price of £16.00 is available. It’s easy to become a Member. Find details on our website, www.sog.org.uk.
