Camden English folk Dance Club

Started by dancers who moved from Cecil Sharp House in order to maintain the tradition of English Folk Dancing in London. The club, is for dancers over 18, experienced and beginners and all between. Come and enjoy yourself. An enjoyable way to keep fit. No partner needed. If you have never danced before this is your chance to try. No need to book. Every dance will be walked through and called. This traditional form of dance has been around for several hundred years. We will focus on traditional English Country dances from Playford to today, dances collected by Playford and his sucessors, the interpretations by Cecil Sharp, Tom Cook, Andrew Shaw and other English dance masters, the occasional dance from the American development of English Country Dance and some of the recent dances in the English Country Dance tradition written by Philippe Callens, Colin Hume and Pat Shaw, among others. These may also be found in Barn-dances, Country dances and Ceilidhs, or period TV plays.
