Amar Gallery

Amar Gallery in London proudly presents Black Panthers & Revolution: The Art of Stephen Shames, a landmark exhibition running from May 29 to July 6, 2025. This marks the first UK solo show for acclaimed American photojournalist Stephen Shames, whose extensive archive offers an unparalleled visual chronicle of the Black Panther Party and the broader civil rights movement.

Shames, invited by Panther co-founder Bobby Seale to serve as the Party’s official photographer, captured both the public demonstrations and intimate, behind-the-scenes moments of the movement from 1967 to 1973. The exhibition features over 100 rarely seen black-and-white photographs, showcasing figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Angela Davis, Maya Angelou, Huey Newton, and Afeni Shakur. These images highlight the Panthers' community programs—free breakfasts, medical clinics, and educational initiatives—that were integral to their mission of empowerment and social justice
