WWT London Wetland Centre consists of 105 acres of blissful nature reserve just off the River Thames, 15-minute’ walk from Barnes rail station. Providing visitors with brilliant days out surrounded by wildlife, its mission is to inspire people to cherish and protect the world’s wetlands.
Key facts
· London’s first large-scale, man-made, inner-city wetland reserve
· Welcoming over 150,000 visitors a year.
· Created by WWT, founder Sir Peter Scott and opened in 2000 by Sir David Attenborough
· 95% of the site is a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) thanks to the reserve’s diversity of wild spaces and species.
