St. Peters Church, Church Road, Bexhill-on-Sea TN40 2HE BACH – CANTATA 196 SCARLATTI – DIXIT DOMINUS SCHUBERT – MASS IN G Bexhill Choral Society Kenneth Roberts conductor Sussex Concert Orchestra Bach’s Cantata 196 is a short and joyful piece celebrating the blessings of God. It is an early work, possibly written for a wedding, which highlights Bach’s skill at writing for voices and instruments. Alessandro Scarlatti’s rarely performed Dixit Dominus is a complex setting of Psalm 110 (109) showcasing his gift for harmony and vivid word-painting, with moments of drama and emotional intensity. Schubert’s small-scale Mass in G is a beautiful setting of the Mass, with tuneful melodies enriched by profound harmonies, which have made it popular with both performers and listeners.
