Longshaw Sheepdog Trials is thought to be the oldest trials in England with the first official trial being held in 1898. Many of the “One Man and his Dog” television programme competitors take part in the open classes held on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday there is a local class in the morning, and in the afternoon the double gather championship, comprising of the eight highest pointed dogs from both Thursday and Friday, takes place, for which the winner takes home and keeps a silver teapot. Weather permitting, on Friday and Saturday there will be a flypast by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, time yet to be confirmed. Also, on Saturday morning there is a pre-entry fell race covering approximately six miles of varied terrain with 1100 feet of climb. Please see the Dark Peak Fell Runners website for more details. The magnificent trophies are on display daily. Hot and cold food is available, a beer tent and ice cream van are also on site. Parking is free.
