The Story of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson is the title of the illustrated talk - presented by Andy Relf. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson is regarded as the first female to qualify as a Doctor in the UK. The talk follows her and her influential family (see note below) and the Firsts she achieved. However she was not the first female doctor globally. Her career path was influenced by others, however she helped women following her change their role in medicine and in other ways around the world. (The Garrett family is well known in various other areas, and, for instance created their Long Shop Factory in Leiston, Suffolk, one of the first to use the idea of a Production Line, as they built heavy agricultural machinery etc) Ipswich Group, Suffolk Family History Society meets at The Main Hall, The Salvation Army Citadel, 558 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich IP4 4PH, at 7:30pm, Come along and find out more about her...
