Robert Walker - The Medieval Stained Glass of Herefordshire & Shropshi

A joint event organised with and benefitting The Friends of St Mary's Ross on Wye. Robert Walker will discuss his beautiful, detailed book in an illustrated talk, sharing his interest and wealth of knowledge. The richly-illustrated book represents the first comprehensive study of the medieval stained glass of Herefordshire and Shropshire and includes a gazetteer of all known surviving stained glass in the two counties for the period c.1300–1700. The region lays claim to some of the finest medieval glass in the country, including the rare late thirteenth-century medallions at Madley, the beautiful fourteenth-century chancel windows at Eaton Bishop and the magnificent assemblages of fourteenth- and fifteenth-century glass at Ludlow and Shrewsbury. The important later medieval workshops in Coventry, York and Oxford also had influence and presence here, and are for the first time fully plotted in this survey. The first detailed study of stained glass in the central Marches, this title is lavishly illustrated with superb colour photographs and is essential reading for anyone interested in church art and architecture. Robert Walker is a retired building conservation officer with a life-long interest in historic churches. Previous publications include The Dovecotes and Pigeon Houses of Herefordshire... See more >
