Alfred Cohen Museum The School House, High Street Wighton, Near Wells-next-the-Sea Wells-next-the-Sea NR23 1AL
New temporary exhibition at the Alfred Cohen Museum of the artist's powerful images of animals throughout his career. Includes oils, watercolours, drawings, collages, prints and sculpture. As a young man Alfred Cohen went to Pamplona to see the bulls run. He met Ernest Hemingway there. This lively exhibition at the new Alfred Cohen Museum starts with the magnificent lithograph of a dying bull from the 1950s. Alfred painted in Norfolk for the last two decades of a life devoted to art. The museum incorporates his studios as he left them. Over 70 works are on permanent display from a career covering five decades. Alfred Cohen’s work is represented in over 50 public collections in Britain, including the Arts Council, the British Council, the Government Art Collection, the Sainsbury Centre, Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Pallant House, the Barber Institute, and the Fitzwilliam Museum. The School House, Wighton, was formerly the home of the sculptor Henry Moore. The School House Gallery has established a reputation over 40 years as one of East Anglia’s leading galleries for modern and contemporary art, and has had exhibitions of many artists including Moore, Hockney, David Jones, Gwyneth Johnstone, Derrick Greaves, Brüer Tidman, Elizabeth Humphries, Eric Gill, Sula Rubens, and Cohen. Its opening hours are the same as for the Museum...
