Virtuoso pianist Yevgeny Sudbin opens this concert with JS Bach’s Fantasia & Fugue in A minor BWV 904, followed by the gorgeous Chopin Ballade # 4. The mystical Scriabin – a composer who has long fascinated Sudbin – started where Chopin left off, but his 10th sonata shows just how much further he went! Some delicious Scarlatti sonatas bring us back down to earth, we then hear Sudbin’s astonishing and affectionate arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy Overture Romeo & Juliet. Yevgeny Sudbin has been hailed by The Telegraph as “potentially one of the greatest pianists of the 21st century”. As one of very few exclusive artists with BIS Records, Yevgeny’s recordings have met with critical acclaim and are regularly featured as CD of the Month by BBC Music Magazine or Editor’s Choice by Gramophone.
