Introduction to Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

Learn how to weave on a rigid heddle loom and make a bag or mat to take home with you. Rigid heddle looms are a good choice for new weavers as setting up is straight forward and new ones are relatively inexpensive. You will be able to explore the variety of patterns that can be woven in plain weave (over one thread and under the next) using two colours. You will spend half the day weaving on a loom set up for balanced weave (the type used for fabrics). The other half the day will be spent weaving on a loom threaded at about 4 threads an inch. These threads, which are the warp, will be completely covered by the weft. Your weaving samples can be made up into small bags or used as mats. This course is suitable for beginners, no prior experience with weaving is needed. The tutor for this course is Angela Pawlyn. Angela is a member of both the Oxford and Kennet Valley Guilds of Weavers Spinners and Dyers. She has nearly fifty years of weaving experience and teaches at several venues across Oxfordshire. We keep class sizes small to allow you plenty of time with the course tutor... See more >
