Sat 14 Sep 24
Sat 14 Sep:14.00 - 17.00 hours; Free Entry.
Friends Meeting House, 45 Northfield End, Henley-on-Thames RG9 2JJ
Heritage Open Day: Saturday 14th September from 2 - 5 p.m. Henley Meeting House will be open for a special exhibition for visitors to look around; some 17th century activities will be available in the garden and our ancient burial ground. In the 17th Century when Quakers first began to meet in Henley, Britain was going through a mini ice age. The harsh winters froze over the River Thames making it possible to hold Frost Fairs on the ice. Today, nearly 400 years later, Quakers still meet in Henley but now we are facing different extremes of climate. Visit the Meeting House and our peaceful secluded garden and the original Quaker burial ground behind our old brick and flint walls. Come and try some Frost Fair games and 17th century fare. Learn how early Quakers lived and endured and why we stayed...
