Heritage Open Day: Medieval meeting hall dating from 1471. Home to The Incorporated Guilds of Weavers, Fullers (AKA Tuckers) and Shearmen. Woollen Cloth Trades Museum with static and interactive exhibits plus guided tours. A Guildhall for the Principal Guilds of the Woollen Cloth trades built in 1471. The building was initially open internally but has been halved by a ceiling since the 16th C. During the pre-reformation years it was a Roman Catholic Chappel but subsequently became a secular Guildhall. The impact of the Woollen Cloth trade on Exeter cannot be overstated. In the census of 1676 it was determined that 80% of the City population were employed in some aspect of the trade and the revenues achieved made Exeter the 3rd richest City outside London...
