History Walk about the old Railway

Theddlethorpe History Club's fortnightly walk and talk, this week will meet at the King's Head Inn at 10am and will cover all things Railway. The old Louth & East Coast Railway was opened in 1877 connecting Louth via new stations at Grimoldby, Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe, to Mablethorpe by train. It ran successfully bringing visitors to the seaside and helping farmers transport produce. But by 1960 the state of the line was deteriorating and considered underused. There was a rush for tickets for the last passenger train on 3rd December 1960. The line was taken up, but much remains of the old railway that can still be seen, such as the old stations and gatehouses...
