Candlelit Concert: Prophets and Sibyls - Colchester Chamber Choir

Tickets £20, £10 for under 30s, £5 for full time students St Peter ad Vincula, Coggeshall CO6 1UD Our candlelit concert in January is a feast of stunningly beautiful Flemish and Spanish polyphony featuring Lassus’ remarkable settings of texts by pagan sibyls foretelling the birth of Christ. As exotic as the sibyls themselves, the music is unlike anything else from the period, with many harmonic surprises. These motets will be interspersed with settings of the Jewish prophets also foretelling the birth of Christ by Lassus, Gallus, de Wert and Sweelinck. In the second half of the concert we invite you to sit back and let the soundscape of Lobo’s singularly beautiful Lamentations wash over you.
