From the centre of Ambleside we take to the slopes of Wansfell Pike (482m). This is a mix of quiet lanes and well maintained footpaths that zigzag up towards the summit. This is steep and it is strategically sensible to take it slow, thus letting our muscles warm up. It should take about 1 hour to reach this first summit, where the big views open up.
