Dr Strangelove, brought to the Drill Hall big screen by NTlive is a new stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's iconic classic 1964 film masterpiece which starred Peter Sellers, in three of the leading roles. Released against the backdrop of the actual Cold War it somehow turned the terror of the time, the threat of nuclear annihilation, into brilliant dark comedy. This explosively funny satire has been made into a stage production by Armando Iannucci and Sean Foley, and has the powerful comic acting of seven-time BAFTA Award-winner Steve Coogan, following in the footsteps of Peter Sellers, but this time playing four roles.
It's about a rogue U.S general triggering a nuclear attack on Russia who, unbeknownst to him, have a Doomsday machine capable of destroying the world. With the assistance of an eccentric ex-Nazi scientist, named Dr Strangelove (Steve Coogan) can the President (Steve Coogan) and a British Air Force Captain (also Steve Coogan!) work together to prevent an apocalypse?
At the time, hot on the heels of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the possibility of a nuclear war was very real. Now it might be seen to have a stark new relevance....
