Popular Monmouthshire lecturer Eleanor Bird will be exploring the art of Siena in the 14th Century, when the Italian city was a trading centre and artistic melting pot. This was the moment when painting first became as important as sculpture or metalwork, with ambitious projects to adorn the cathedral and the town hall as well as the private chapels of the wealthy. This special one-off lecture celebrates the groundbreaking exhibition at the National Gallery London, which comes to a close later in June (tickets are still available!). If you are going, or if you have been, this talk will enrich and enhance that experience or even inspire you to go..And if you can't get there, this is a fabulous opportunity to discover this period, and place in art and history...
