Edale Car park, Hope Road Edale S33 7ZQ Kinder Scout, the highest point of the Peak District, is an iconic moorland plateau that offers up a true adventure for those venturing up onto its forbidding summit. Safe in the experienced hands of local professional guides, you are free to enjoy breathtaking views, explore its vast wild interior and marvel at the dramatic wind carved rock formations that help create Kinder’s unique atmosphere. We climb out of Edale to the gritstone outcrops of Ringing Roger, and from there, travel across Kinder’s isolated plateau, to the spectacular northern and western edges. Reaching Kinder Downfall (the Peak District’s highest waterfall and one with a habit of flowing upwards if the wind is in the right direction) we leave behind the views down to Mermaid’s Pool and Kinder Reservoir, to follow barely discernible sheep trods as we travel along the legendary crossing path. Our journey now takes us through incredible rock formations to Kinder Low and a descent down Jacob’s Ladder, to the historic packhorse bridge, and on back to Edale. A celebratory drink may be called for, both as a gesture of support to the local economy, and to give the chance to reflect on a fantastic day in the hills.
