Hoylandswaine Well Dressing

Free Opposite The Lord Nelson Barnsley Road, Hoylandswaine, Nr Penistone S36 7JA Pictures made with flower petals and other natural materials pressed into clay and erected to decorate the well. (A Derbyshire tradition really but stolen and practised for the past 11 years in our village.) It was a custom to decorate wells to thank God for providing water in the past year and to ensure a plentiful supply for the next year.
