In a happy combination of anniversaries of great Georgians, St Martin’s Church in Epsom is celebrating both the 250th of Jane Austen’s birth and the 200th of its own glorious Georgian nave. As well as a stage adaption of ‘Pride & Prejudice’ another of the events in a celebratory weekend is a free talk by historian Peter Ross exploring the domestic lives of the Georgians. ‘Dining with James & Jane: Eating at home with the Georgians’ is the title of his talk which unites Jane Austen with Norfolk clergyman James Woodforde to illustrate the often little-known daily lives of those who bridged the 18th and 19th centuries.
