Tower Tours of St Michael and All Angels, Princetown
Sat 20 Sep 25
Sat 20 Sep:14:00-16:00; Free Entry.
St Michael & All Angels, Tavistock Road, Princetown PL20 6RE
Heritage Open Day: Climb the tower of the only church in England built by prisoners of war on a guided tour. The church of St Michael and All Angels sits on top of Dartmoor and has a fascinating history. It was built in 1812 by American and French prisoners of war when they were held captive at Dartmoor prison. The tower has been recently renovated and this is an opportunity to climb up to the second floor and view the church, and surrounding countryside, from high up. Refreshments (tea, coffee and cake) will be available by donation. We want everyone to be safe and enjoy the tour so please note the following: - The tower tours will take visitors up the inside of the tower, looking out at the churchyard, nave and views and not out onto the roof, as it is unsafe...
