Originally dating to the late 18th Century, the building was used a naval hospital for about 100 years, after which it became barracks for the Royal Marines until they moved out in 1996 and the building was converted into residences. Externally, the building retains an impressive façade, clock tower and gates. Internally, the operating theatre retains some original fittings and the atmosphere of its former use.
