Heritage Open Day: Opened in 1812, the church retains its Georgian simplicity and elegance. Old pictures depict its earlier huge oval gallery and enable you to compare its past appearance with what you see all around you. Additional displays in the church hall. Before the present church was erected, Canterbury Methodists worshipped in a twelve-sided building in King Street. This was nick-named the ‘Pepper Box’ or ‘Roundhouse’ chapel because of its shape. Plans of it can be seen in the modern multi-sided church hall, which reflects its design. A church is far more than its buildings.
