The History and Architecture of Paradise Square

Heritage Open Day: This tour will explore Paradise Square's history & architecture including its origins, buildings & stories of its inhabitants. It will also highlight the Chartists, the inn where the 'blind fiddlers' played, & Sheffield's first women's hospital. THis tour will be a chance to explore a timecapsule of buildings and streets of 18th/19th century Sheffield. The streets still contain the original buildings and the flagstone streets as well as some of the original lamps. We will explore the buildings and areas that held meetings that changed the political spectrum of not just Sheffield but the entire nation. We shall also see Sheffield's first women's hospital and hear stories from the inn where the famous Sheffield blind fiddlers played. The tour will also take in the former site of a nunnery and a wash house. You will be told real life stories of real peoplein a setting that will take you right to them...
