Heritage Open Day: Explore this Art Deco Grade II listed station building and view an exhibition as part of Artwave! Built in 1938 for a large new housing development that was never built, it stands as a large suburban station, in a small semi-rural community. Bishopstone Station is remarkable as being the only station in the country with gun turrets incorporated into the building (added in 1940). It is also the place where the first railway worker and the first Sussex civilian was killed by enemy action in July 1940. Friends of Bishopstone Station have helped in the restoration of this iconic building over the past few years and plan to continue with this good work.
