Heritage Open Day: Discover the hidden history of St Michael's Church, Blackawton. Learn about its part in Operation Tiger during World War II, and its historic features including the rare Tudor rood screen and a Norman font. Teas and homemade cakes available 2pm-5pm. A large, Grade I Listed village church dating in parts from the 14th and 15th centuries, St Michael’s is home to many beautiful historic features including an extremely rare rood screen built and decorated to commemorate the ill-fated marriage of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. It also played its part in WWII when the village was evacuated in the preparation for the Normandy Landings as part of Operation Tiger. Stall selling homemade cakes and hot drinks between 2pm-5pm, and more. There’s also the chance to explore Blackawton further, from the pub and community-run shop opposite the church, to pretty countryside walks...
