Heritage Open Day: St Clement Danes is the central church of the Royal Air Force. Explore the church's thousand year history, and the fascinating artefacts connected with the RAF. For the Heritage Open Days, the church's historic crypt will be open to the public. St Clement Danes is a Sir Christopher Wren designed church with a 1000 year history. It was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren in 1682 following the great fire of London and was a parish church until 1941 when it was bombed during the Blitz. Thereafter, it was rebuilt by the Royal Air Force, becoming their central church; it was reconsecrated in 1958.
