The Church of St. Mary the Virgin, St. Mary in the Marsh, Romney Marsh TN29 0BX
Heritage Open Day: This is one of Kent's most picturesque churches and the resting place of writer E. Nesbit, author of The Railway Children. The many interesting features include a medieval scratch dial. Church volunteers will be available to show visitors around. The church at St. Mary-in-the-Marsh can be seen for miles across the flat landscape. Many visitors come to see the final resting place of E. Nesbit whose grave is marked by simple wooden posts. Her friend Noël Coward would sit in the churchyard to write. The church has some interesting floor brasses, a beautiful decorated wall panel and fine stained glass. Especially for Heritage Open Days, volunteers will be on-hand to show visitors around the church on Saturday 13th September at 3pm and on Monday 15th September at midday...
