Heritage Open Day: Guided tour around the old section of Mansfield Cemetery. Notable monuments will be pointed out and discussed, together with the history of the cemetery and its buildings. A leaflet guide to the Cemetery will be provided. Mansfield Cemetery, like many other cemeteries, was established following the reforms of the 1852-7 burial acts. A ten-acre site, on the then outskirts of Mansfield, was assigned by the Town Commissioners for a park style cemetery. The appointed Burial Board commissioned the construction of: • two chapels with a joint tower • two lodges and adjacent entrance gates • a wall to enclose the cemetery.
