The Fakenham Gasworks Museum, Hempton Rd., Fakenham NR21 7LA Heritage Open Day: One of the last intact gas works left in the world, see how 'Town Gas' was made with displays of some of the gas appliances sold to make life easier in the home. For Heritage Open Days, displays of local history, the work of local artists and more. The first Fakenham Gas works was built by local man R.P. Spice in 1846, this was his first but he went on to become one of the most well known Gas engineers of the 19th century, the current works dates from the very early 20th Century and still retains all the equipment needed to produce gas from coal and to process the by-products produced.
