Heritage Open Day: The world's first regular steam-drawn passenger railway was opened in 1830 between Canterbury and Whitstable! The original locomotive INVICTA is on display and the restoration of the 1829 winding engine can be inspected. Free HOD Admission. Railways or track ways were commonly used in the eighteenth century to move coal and rock in mines and quarries, powered by donkey, horse or man. Each had a specific purpose, as required by the owners.
