Heritage Open Day: A photographic display of Folkestone's built heritage as it was and as it is today. Folkestone has a colourful history in architecture, having grown rapidly from a grotty little fishing village (as described by a Victorian writer) with the coming of the railway in 1843 to a favourite seaside destination of the Victorian and Edwardian elite. The exhibition catalogues the changes in architecture from the early Victorian era to the present day. You will see images of buildings no longer standing, as well as examples that have been modernised and completely rebuilt to echo the modern era.
