Heritage Open Day: Visitors will see an early 'Waterloo' or 'Commissioners' Church', an imposing example of architect Thomas Rickman's work, dating from 1825. It is just two hundred years since its consecration and the weekend's activities are in celebration! The Church, consecrated in 1825, is noteworthy as an early example of a large Waterloo Church, for the hammer-beam roof by Rickman, Stephen Adam's internal west window and a local version of Thorvaldson's Angel Font, both dating to 1891. In accordance with this year's theme, the main focus will be on Thomas Rickman's place in English Architecture with particular reference to the visible evidence of this church.
