Heritage Open Day: St Peter's Church, Thornton, a Grade I listed, medieval church, one of '1000 Best Churches'. 13th and 14th September - exhibition entitled 'Historical Thornton', ancient maps, and local amateur historian. Home made cakes for sale on Saturday, 13th. This old and beautiful church, of medieval origin dates from the 13th century and is Grade I listed. It holds a unique place in the county, and its contents are of great historical interest. Medieval stained glass, linen fold pews from 1560, a working clock over 400 years old, a mid Victorian organ recently completely refurbished, are just a few of its assets.
