Samplers were mainly made by young girls to demonstrate their needlework skills, and today, they give us an insight into the types of stitches taught, moral values, and social expectations of women. King Solomon’s Temple was a popular design choice in the 18th and 19th centuries due to its religious significance. The maker’s home and local landmarks were also often incorporated in the design.
