A Buxton Quarry in the 1930s: in photo and film
Wed 17 Sep 25
Wed 17 Sep:7pm; Free Entry.
The Pump Room, The Crescent, Buxton SK17 6BH
Heritage Open Day: Join Frank Emerson as he takes you deep into the industrial heritage of Buxton with a visual journey through a 1930s quarry. This illustrated talk showcases rare still photos and vintage cine film, curated from the Tunstead archive—a collection Frank has meticulously digitised and indexed over the past two decades. Having begun his career with ICI in 1987 as an Investigatory Scientist at Hindlow, Frank later served as Technical Product Manager at Tunstead. After retiring in 2007, he took on the voluntary role of archive curator, digitising over 30,000 photographs and 10 hours of cine film. His dedication has preserved a vital chapter in Buxton’s story and made this unique archive more accessible to all. Frank also spent a decade post-retirement leading quarry tours, bringing the site’s rich history to life for visitors. This event is a rare opportunity to explore that legacy through his eyes.
